Sunich, there is also other reason to raise reindeer... If you ground a reindeer horn -you get stuff that effects like Viagra (aphrodisiac) :lol: :wink: :mrgreen:

today here we started the Lent, meaning no meat for forty days...

hm so maybe in 40 years time i will have to get few raindeers :lol:

by the way, what does aindeer meat tastes like? i suppose its not as good as cows and stuff?

I would describe it as following: the meat is not cultivated, so it's a bit chewy and it has very unique and strong taste and flavor. One analogy, although a quite far fetched is kebab meat - since the reindeer meat is usually processed like kebab meat (which is, by the way, from cow). http://www.paliskunnat.fi/pororeseptit/Pataruuat/sieni%20poronk%C3%A4ristys.htm.
So, imagine your normal cow meat - remove some water / liquids (it's mainly blood) and add stong aroma.

I'm not a vegetarian n any way, but eating reindeer sounds like eating youki to me... nevermind.

hmm, now that you said that people used to eat mamonths long time ago. imagine what feasts people had back in those days..1 mamoth for entire tribe which i think was rather small anyway. :P
