Postby ksenija » Fri 29 May 2009 19:03

Hello,

i have Syberia I&II collectors edition installed on Windows 7. The game (Syberia I) starts, but than it freezes (black screen and Windows 7 is blocked). :(

I have tryed to run it in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode, but it freezes again. :(

Anybody any ideas? :look:
Thanks.

P.S. it used to work normally on Windows XP

Hi ksenija,

Try this :

- Go to \Programs\Syberia
- Right click on Syberia.exe
- Select "Run as Administrator"

You can try to install patch 3 for Syberia 1 too...

Unfortunately it didn't help. I have already tried:

- installing it in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode (under Program Files, under default location)
- Running it in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode
- Running it in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode + Administrator's rights

Also, I cant install any of the official patches ("Syberia I&II collectors edition is installed under default location"). I always get an error: Cannot install this patches, Syberia is not installed. (Game is original not pirated)

Any help?

Thx...

Ok,

1) try to install Directx 9.0c and let me know if it works...

2) or you can use Windows Virtual PC only available if you own a Pro or Enterprise or Ultimate version of windows seven

3) if not, you can try to install Virtual Windows XP to play the game in a virtual XP environment... (i will give you a tuto to install it if you need)
(This last option needs a very good computer...)

Good evening.

I have exactly the same problem. None of the above solutions worked. I can't run XP in a virtualized environment because I had Vista OEM on my laptop and I switched to Windows 7 x64.

Is there any hope ?

yes,
1) install Virtual Box (freeware)
http://www.virtualbox.org/
2) install windows xp sp3 into Virtual Box
3) install Syberia into windows xp via Virtual Box

Hi everyone,

I recently did a clean upgrade from XP to Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit). I had the EXACT same problem with Syberia collectors edition (neither I nor II would run).

After many failed attempts, I finally stumbled onto a very simple solution: lowering the screen resolution. Windows 7 tends to encourage crazy high screen resolution (e.g. 1920 x 1080), and this seemed to be the cause for getting stuck at the black screen. Even though one of the options in the "Compatibility" tab tries to alternatively run it at a crazy low resolution (640 x 480), this was too far in the other direction.

To work around this, all I did was right click my wallpaper, change the resolution the old fashioned way, and all troubles disappeared for both Syberia I and II. I was able to get the games running at both 800 x 600 and at 1280 x 720. Too bad such 'happy medium' resolutions aren't included in the Windows 7 compatibility tab; I sent feedback to recommend this, but doubt they will listen. Still, changing it manually is a lot easier than using Virtual Box in my opinion.

I hope this helps!

Windows 7 here,
I never bothered with Vista a whole lot as I always prefered the simplicity of XP.
