Hi everyone,
I recently did a clean upgrade from XP to Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit). I had the EXACT same problem with Syberia collectors edition (neither I nor II would run).
After many failed attempts, I finally stumbled onto a very simple solution: lowering the screen resolution. Windows 7 tends to encourage crazy high screen resolution (e.g. 1920 x 1080), and this seemed to be the cause for getting stuck at the black screen. Even though one of the options in the "Compatibility" tab tries to alternatively run it at a crazy low resolution (640 x 480), this was too far in the other direction.
To work around this, all I did was right click my wallpaper, change the resolution the old fashioned way, and all troubles disappeared for both Syberia I and II. I was able to get the games running at both 800 x 600 and at 1280 x 720. Too bad such 'happy medium' resolutions aren't included in the Windows 7 compatibility tab; I sent feedback to recommend this, but doubt they will listen. Still, changing it manually is a lot easier than using Virtual Box in my opinion.
I hope this helps!
