The Story


Syberia 1 and 2 are adventure games whose action unfolds in a series of mysterious European settings. The player assumes the role of American lawyer Kate Walker, whose firm has given her the mission of purchasing a toy factory in the village of Valadilène. An unforeseen occurrence leads Kate to make a journey across this mysterious continent where history and fantasy meet and intermingle.

In order to fulfill her mandate, she must track down a character named Hans Voralberg, a brilliant inventor who is apt to indulge in somewhat bizarre behavior. Driven by a passion for mammoths, he long ago left his village to pursue his dream.


Her companion throughout her travels will be one of the inventor’s latest creations, Oscar, an automaton with an almost human personality. He is the driver of a clockwork train constructed from plans sent by Hans.

After leaving behind all her worldly possessions with the sole purpose in joining the heir of the Voralberg family on his journey, Kate will see her role undergo a remarkable change. From being the pursuant, she becomes Hans main acolyte, his support to attain the elapsed terra firma of the mammoths.


Syberia 1 and 2 are 2 titles internationally recognized among the best adventure games of recent years. Kate is the main character of the game. It is through her that the player will experience the adventure. This young American lawyer’s mission will take her to places she’s never suspected existed, and will lead her to discover her true nature.

Learning to control the character is a quick and almost instinctive process, whether you‘re a beginner to adventure games or a veteran of the genre. Syberia 1 and 2 are a fixed-camera adventure games in which players inhabit a 3D character (Kate Walker) as she moves in real time through a pre-rendered 3D environment of stunning beauty. The use of motion-capture technology to animate Kate Walker’s movements (and those of the many characters she meets in her adventures) ensures players a captivating visual experience.


Syberia 1 and 2 base its gameplay on a mix of discovery and scenario development. The action takes place in eight different worlds. Each world offers the player a chance to discover the key elements needed for solving the mysteries and challenges integrated into the storyline. These elements may take the form of found articles, zoomed viewpoints, or dialogue with other characters encountered along the journey. Through interaction and dialogue with other characters, and by solving the enigmas that she encounters, each player, as Kate Walker, gradually reveals the whole of the story.

Syberia has been created by famous French Artist Benoît Sokal, chief designer and the man in charge of orchestrating the myriad of elements that bring the Syberia world to life (to see the biography of Benoît Sokal, click here).

Now, and for the joy of her large fan community, the Syberia saga’s emblematic heroin’s return is getting more concrete today with the start of production of the third episode of the saga, Syberia 3.
